I'm a designer who is a novice developer and I would like to learn how to get under the hood of WordPress and customize it to the way I want it to look and work.

Hi,
I noticed that a Wordcamp is in the planning phase for June, in Vancouver. I am wondering if you could send me more information.
Thanks!

Ultimately I just want to write and not have to mess around with the blog platform. I'd like to learn "the basics" of WordPress.org

1) Updating versions of WordPress and updating plugins - making sure things are compatible.

2) The basic ways of adding images to your posts - particularly using Flickr.

3) How to troubleshoot WordPress problems. How to use forums.

4) File structures of what you have to FTP. (would be helpful when you are troubleshooting)

Recently I was thinking of switching to wordpress.com so I can spend more time writing and less time dealing with blog issues. But I'm open to the idea of learning more (and if it's really too hard - I'll go to wordpress.com. Maybe that's a good idea...)
